One of the leading names in house music for almost a decade has kicked off the New Year in style. Funkerman is back with the release of two new tracks Paperbag Revolution and Everyday Getaway. The Dutch DJ and producer who topped the download charts in 2007 and 2009 with “Speed Up” and “Remember” remains one of the hardest working men on the house scene and continues his 2010 tour into 2011 with dates booked all over the globe.

Funkerman has received mass critical acclaim for his remixes and collaborations with artists from a diverse range of musical genres and has worked alongside the likes of Ida Corr, LEFT, Yoav and the Sugababes. Now the DJ, famous for fusing house with styles such as hip hop, soul, jazz, and funk, is back with a fresh sound, ready to make his mark on 2011 with this new EP.

Paperbag Revolution demonstrates just how versatile an artist like Funkerman actually is. Luring the listener in with a chilled ambient vibe reminiscent of his earlier work, he suddenly reminds us that this is not his first time on the decks by dropping in the kind of breakneck beat that helped to make “Speed Up” such a global hit, fusing both sounds to create something unique. This is a more mature sound from Funkerman, adding layers of raw rhythm to the track to build to a crescendo, creating an effect that takes over the listener’s body and holds them for the duration of the song.

By contrast Everyday Getaway throws you straight into an industrial beat, a blend of horns and synths that sets an immediate mood. Its tracks like this that helped Funkerman gain international recognition and it starts as it means to go on. But as always Funkerman is an explorer playing with the expectations of his listeners, so just when you think you know what’s coming he surprises you by throwing in some free style jazz trumpet that takes the mood of the track to another level.

Both tracks have all the makings of late night dance floor fillers and prove that Funkerman has earned his reputation as an artist who loves breaking the rules as he goes along, drawing you in then throwing you back with a thrust towards another drop.
