The legendary singer and ultimate 80s Beehive Goddess Mari Wilson has teamed up with song-writing and production team, BoiSounds to release pop extravaganza,’ O.I.C’, (“Oh I See..”), an infectious, groovy-to-the-bone single that lifts you from its first beat. The single is due for release on 31/1/11 2010 on BoiSounds Music.
Mari originally found chart success with hits such as, ‘Just What I Always Wanted’ and ‘Cry Me A River’. By the mid-eighties her musical taste took her more in a jazz direction, where she played venues such as the famous Ronnie Scott’s and The Royal Festival Hall (supporting the legendary Stan Getz).
Mari has continued to build her reputation as a great live performer appearing in musical theatre, playing roles such as Dusty Springfield in ‘Dusty’ and alongside Boy George in ‘Taboo’. Mari continued to record during this time, and was instantly recognisable as the voice of ‘Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps’, the theme tune of the highly successful TV show ‘Coupling’. Mari has just finished a run of her new one woman show, ‘The Love Thing’, which premiered at the Leicester Square Theatre, London to rave reviews.
BoiSounds Music is the creation of songwriter and producer, Ben Block. Best described as a hub for musical collaboration, BoiSounds Music writes & produces original songs for known and up-and-coming artists, as well as soundtracks for film, TV and adverts. BoiSounds’ new album, featuring an impressive array of eclectic artists and musicians, is due for release in early 2011. ‘Icon Baby’, the first single off this anticipated album was released in summer of this year, and its controversial video has already received over 25,000 hits on YouTube.
So what brought Mari Wilson and BoiSounds together? Ben Block of BoiSounds says, “As a songwriter, I love writing specifically for artists I’ve admired from afar and Mari Wilson was always on my list. She is a total Queen and sooo cool, that I wanted to write a pop track to not only reflect her past, but also put her firmly back on the map – introducing her to a new audience, while remaining true to her long standing fans.”
A video of ‘O.I.C’ accompanies the single and was actually shot in Mari’s garden. “All the neighbours were looking out of their windows, while Mari ran in and out of the house, changing from one fabulous outfit to the next. The rest of what happened is top secret!” says Ben.
The release of ‘O.I.C’ will not only remind people of Mari Wilson’s impressive vocal range, but this timely collaboration with BoiSounds’ Ben will no doubt win her a new, younger fan base. Block definitely has his ear firmly to the ground with this current track, and his catchy lyrics and infectious melodies hint at his pop influences, but with a refreshingly modern twist and infused with a dash of French Euro Pop, the track is bound to get the dance-floors around the world very busy.
Remixes of ‘O.I.C’ include the Funky- Latin-House remix by Moreno (Basement Jaxx, Roger Sanchez, Buzzin’ Fly) and uber cool electro club mix from the band TNTT.
‘O.I.C’ will be released through Boisounds Music on the 31st of January 2011.
