Face Infinity is the latest full-length release from Terrace, the dubtechno-infused alter ego of producer and musician Stefan Robbers. Best known for his role in Acid Junkies, Terrace is one of multiple outlets used by this artist to explore the different aspects of his musical personality.

Under the Terrace alias Robbers has already a household name and released a string of critically well-received records, including 3 full-length albums: Round Up, Konnekt and Interesting Times. After many releases on the infamous Djax-Up beats imprint, much of his material has been released on his own record label, which started life as Eevo Lute Muzique before evolving into EevoNext Recordings. As well as being a producer with impeccable standards, Robbers is also a talented live performer. Using the Terrace brand, he has constructed a funky electronic live show, which fuses material from Face Infinity and earlier Terrace productions with material he has released as Florence, R.E.C. and under his own name.

This is his first full-length release as Terrace since 2005’s Interesting Times. It is an album that is markedly more relaxed than anything he has produced with Acid Junkies, yet for any fan of electronic music, Face Infinity is something to be savoured.

The album, along with its title, came about due to a carefully considered methodology, as Robbers explains:

“Whilst experimenting with live dubs, the power of coincidence creates special musical moments. The echoes of a tape dub machine appear infinite, as do the decaying reverbs of a spring unit. I found it refreshing, challenging and inspiring to apply these aspects to my music. Freedom of expression through using hand and mind, not necessarily tied together, but applied separately to buttons, sliders, keys and pedals.”

Working alongside composer and producer Fraknoise, Robbers creates each track using a startling array of instruments and instrumental effects. The live dubs give the listener the impression of ‘being there’ – Hohnerkers Delight could be a live recording in a smoky bar.

Beautiful and melodic, it is the warmth of analogue compared to the cool perfection of digital. Each track is its own experience – highlights include Anabells Dub and Mijn Stad, which features Wladimir M. on vocals.

The album, Robbers says, is dedicated to infinity itself. There is a risk that such a theme could appear abstract, or too grand. Yet Face Infinity is a record that has both depth and purpose, inviting the listener in to explore the minutiae of each track.
