Deerhoof – Deerhoof VS. Evil

‘Deerhoof VS. Evil’ is the eleventh album from four piece San Francisco’s Deerhoof.
Opening with ‘Qui Dorm Nom Somia’ I can honestly say I have never heard anything like ‘Deerhoof’ in my life, up until now that is. Inspired by the experimental movement ‘Deerhoof’ sound is very much for the eclectic listener fusing instrumentals layered within one another accompanied by peppy, upbeat female vocals which appears to be a heavily influenced by the J-pop scene.
Throughout the album ‘Deerhoof’ manages to fuse all the genres together as one to make a mind boggling hybrid of sound, from the Latin influence in ‘No One Asked to Dance’, the pure synthesised instrumental ‘Lets Dance the Jet’ and the world fusion inspired ‘Must Fight Current’, ‘Deerhoof’ somehow manage to cater for every music taste simultaneous through the platform of the twelve track album which is ‘Deerhoof VS. Evil’.
Coming to a close with ‘Almost Everyone Almost Always’, the calmest track on the album I can’t help but think that if I had to describe ‘Deerhoof VS. Evil’ in one word it would be “puberty”, as its full of an array of different sounds, provoking a vast range of emotions, highs and lows and cannot be described with a singular adjective.
Overall an interesting album, definitely for the eclectic listener.
