Cloud Nothings – Cloud Nothings

| On 24, Jan 2011

‘Cloud Nothings’ is the brand new self titled début album from Ohio hailed rockers ‘Cloud Nothings‘, and its bloody brilliant.

The opening track ‘Understand At All’ use of a simple yet effective instrumental teamed with catchy upbeat lyrics and vocals, has you instantly hooked on the ‘Cloud Nothings’ sound wave of genuinely good indie pop fused with grunge to make for the remarkably unique sound which is ‘Cloud Nothings’. Followed by the equally infectious ‘Not Important’, conveys the bands classic heart with noticeable influences from the most inspiring musical movement to date, Punk! As well as a little bit of grunge with a sprinkling of indie pop to top it all off.

The upbeat, peppy nature of ‘Cloud Nothings’ is undeniable throughout the album but unlike most indie music ‘Cloud Nothings’ ability to stand out and be counted does not go unnoticed. Paying homage to the original founders of the indie movement such as ‘The Stone Roses’ whose influence is especially noticeable throughout track four, ‘Forget You All The Time’. ‘Cloud Nothings’ remind us of the what true indie is and also gives us hope that the indie genre has not been completely tarnished by the generic, engineered “indie pop” we are so overexposed to today.

My favourite tracks on the album had to be track five and six, ‘Nothing’s Wrong’ and ‘Heartbeat’. The upbeat, fast tempo and hyper active instrumentals of both track teamed with simple yet provoking lyrics had me pogoing around my bedroom in the most carefree of fashions and gave me the most sensational feeling absolutely free.

Listening to the final two tracks of the album ‘On The Radio’ and ‘All The Time’, I found myself nostalgically looking back in disbelief that just last year ‘Cloud Nothings’ were virtually unheard of and were just making their first marks on the music scene of today.

An absolutely phenomenal album. I guarantee you will love.
