Oberhofer – Away Frm U/ Dead Girls Dance

The first thing I thought when I listened to Dead Girls Dance was “unconventional” and I am pretty sure that people will absolutely love or absolutely hate Oberhofer, the band who wrote this tune.
Their music is full of things, like your brain can’t follow all the elements, you can find the guitar, played madly in riffs or arpeggios, you can find loads of voices screaming, whistling, yelping in such a hypnotic rhythm that you can be only carried away or be completely indifferent.
The rallying cry at the very start sounds like a tribal war cry, softened by the sweet sound of its guitar, it goes in crescendo to stop suddenly and start again in an orgy of shouts.
Away FRM U sounds more like an indie-pop song, half Cure, half Siouxsie. Brad, the lead singer who lent the name to the band, loves to use his vocals in strange ways, like crying or letting out absurd sounds, but actually he can sing quite well. I love the whistle in the middle of the song, as well as the organ that gives the song a 70s taste.
To note the ten seconds of noise at the end of the track, it makes me think that they want to catch unprepared their listeners, and that’s good because in this way they claim their attention and force them to listen to the very last note.
