Cosmo Jarvis – Gay Pirates

What can I say? I simply love Cosmo Jarvis! He’s brilliant, with a tongue as sharp as razor, but that tells the truth (read the interview here) and he creates very good music, so he’s got what it takes to become a star.
Gay Pirates, the new single from his next album, is a in-front-of-the-port-bar anthem, I can imagine sailors singing it out while they’re drinking rum, but its lyrics are as sensitive as Brokeback Mountain, telling the story of two boys who love each other and want to run away from prejudices and menaces of people who can’t accept their love story.
Someone can say that it’s easy to draw audience’s attention talking about gay stories, but I think it should be normal in 2011.
Musically Gay Pirates is accompanied by a delicious banjo, beating drums, strong choirs and soft flutes, taking inspiration from Irish music, Cosmo’s vocals sound old fashioned and a bit trembling, giving more charm to his tune.
The poignant and rousing track is the first single from the new Cosmo Jarvis album Is the World Strange or am I Strange?, due out this year and it was praised by Brian Eno who defined Cosmo “a very interesting example to me of a new kind of person; a new kind of artist” and Stephen Fry.
I think we can expect great things from this brilliant guy.
