SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER / LONE (LIVE) / BRAIDEN

| On 20, Jan 2011

Deadly Rhythm are well known for their forward thinking line-up’s and distinctive, if eclectic, sound. Moving on from early shows with the likes of Wiley, Joker and Skream, they defined their sound in 2010 working with the likes of Four Tet, James Blake, Mount Kimbie, Joy Orbison, Scuba and Martyn.
For the first proper Black Atlantic party  of the year, we collaborate with Deadly Rhythm at one of East London’s best new venues – City Arts & Music Project (aka CAMP).

Space Dimension Controller, takes centre stage. Signed to the legendary R&S Records, Max Tiraquon aka Jack Hamill aka Space Dimension Controller, was a source of continued interest throughout 2010. With two critically acclaimed releases to his name – The Love Quadrant released at the end of 2009 and the recent Temporary Thrillz; plus well received mixes for both FACT Magazine and Resident Advisor, and work with Detroit’s Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir and Kyle Hall, he has established himself as a producer with a very clear musical identity, joining the dots between Detroit techno, space age electronica and galactic funk. He has played only a handful of UK dates, with this being the first in a series of high profile shows in 2011.

Formerly signed to Actress’ label Werk Discs, at some point Lone’s sound started moving in a very different direction to the quirky electronic hip hop sound he was becoming known for. The superb ‘Once In A While’ introduced him to a whole new audience and consolidated a base of fans interested in his work, regardless of genre. The most recent extended player released on his own label Magic Wire Recordings continues in the same direction, with tracks like ‘Rissottowe 4’ and ‘Cloud 909’ paying homage to the city that seems to be the obsession of all the artists on this bill – Detroit.

The release of Braiden’s debut on Joy Orbison’s Doldrums imprint – The Alps, has been one of 2010’s most anticipated releases, finally making it’s way into record stores in late November as a very limited vinyl only release. Featuring a remix by Berlin based producer Kassem Mosse, the twelve inch confirms the reputation established via his regular show on Rinse FM, reminds us of his well known love of the Drexciyan sound and most of all, shows him to have a very different perspective to many of his peers.
