2000 Fast Women

The debut single – Letters From Vienna – Released on Wrapt Up, Jan 24th

Born from the minds of two people with very different musical upbringings, Letters from Vienna is the debut single from London’s 2000 Fast Women. Classically trained multi-instrumentalist Joel Hartman grew up in Hampshire, digging out his parents’ dusty vinyl records and listening to sixties American folk and rock while lead vocalist Sam Frizzle spent his days in the capital, broadcasting pirate radio and honing his art-form of the time, hip-hop.

Expert musicianship lies side by side with a strong party element here, making Letters To Vienna a very smart, sentimentally minded pop track. Held together by the bass lines of Max Taylor (Roots Manuva / Groove Armada / Clor) and drummer John Maiden (Tricky), vocalist Sam Frizzle’s imagery is presented in a patchwork of charismatic romanticism that lyrically lays out a familiar scene for anyone who’s ever been swallowed by relationship paranoia. As a debut single, and first label release from Wrapt-Up, this is a confident stride away from the underground culture and anonymity of pirate radio, owing as much to 80s two-tone as it does contemporary hip-hop and indie-rock.

2000 Fast Women have a real crossover single that’s already getting a host of Radio 1 play from Rob Da Bank and Goldierocks’ show The Selector.

The summer might be done with now, but the party’s still well and truly alive.
