Selectalldeletesaveas unveil album details, plus free track!

| On 17, Jan 2011

This is an album like no other. New Jersey band, Selectalldeletesaveas are bringing about the beginning of a new era of punk music.

Their imitable unique style of absurd comedy alt-rock with dark undertones bordering on the mentally insane is earning them cult status in the UK. The debut self-titled album out in March 2011 features tracks like ‘Join The Navy’, a sea-sickly piano ballad about the supposed stereotypes involved with being in the Navy with horrific lyrics in an obvious fake American accent i.e- ‘If I hadn’t joined, I’d still be at home, probably sniffing glue’. It builds into epic proportions with panpipes, electric lead, Genesis-esque Synth and a battalion of drums hammering home.

Second track, ‘My Dabid Icke’, seems to employ an affectionate misspelling of its subject’s name, the ex-Hereford United Goalkeeper / BBC Sports presenter turned conspiracy theorist / world visionary- David Icke. With its endearing enveloping chiming guitars and layers of percussion, It charts the band’s bicycle driven search for their hero David Icke on the Isle of Wight, losing their bottle to knock on his door and culminates beautifully with them being guided down to a cove by seabirds only to find David whistfully gazing out to sea. ‘Best Damn Wolf’ is a track about a farmer that’s orchard and business gets ruined by a ‘fucking white wolf’, that ambles on unevenly with crudely rapped verses and a feel-good almost reggae style chorus sprinkled with some odd synth breaks. You can watch this tale in a very DIY shoddy but oddly charming video below.

Selectalldeletesaveas- Binman by OliverPR

The duo, comprising of Antony Walker and Terry Emm met at the University of Gloucestershire studying music. Emm tells how they ‘recorded scores tracks in drunken sessions fuelled by the frustration of being on a music course and the incredible hard task of trying to earn money in the music business but also our friendship and weird lives’. Walker adds ‘It’s an outlet for other emotions and sounds that other band’s wouldn’t dare to put out’. Among the original University sessions are tracks like ‘Gustav’ and ‘Hitler’s Tortoise’- now legendary among the band’s dedicated hardcore followers. The debut album however ‘takes a departure from these rough spontaneous sessions in terms of a more polished production’ according to Emm, but ‘still keeps the original cheeky essence and experimental ethos’.

‘Football’ is a track inspired by the World Cup last summer when the album was recorded in a makeshift studio in Mapley Cottage, Jersey. It is set at ‘The Royal Soccer Society, London’s’ fourth annual meeting and features a neurotic synical football commentator character ‘Balan Shanson’. The track drives forward with a repetitive baseline that seems to go on forever and turns into an emotional plea for the band’s made-up female presenter character ‘Javvi Rosling’ to go on a date with the band.

‘Binman’ , a free download track available from below, is an edgy slab of grunge-rock that glorifies the well needed, yet muchly undesired, unappreciated profession of waste collector. The track culminates in an explosive Feeder-esque repeating call and response, praising the humble Binman. The band support the view that ‘Success’ is not decided by bank accounts and banner headlines; it comes from who you are, what you are and what you do.

This album is absurd and great fun but also engages the listener with some lovely melodies and infectious rock bursts. Watch out! Selectalldeletesaveas with their arrogant ‘Bigger than the Beatles / greatest band alive’ claims could very well achieve something in 2011, although perhaps admittedly not exactly those aims. They are a refreshing kick up the ass that the music industry needs. Join the movement.

The album is out now digitally and will be released physically with full artwork in March 2011. The mixes distributed digitally are different to those on the CD.
