Memory9 – Mission

Skanky Panky are rightfully proud of their latest offering fom Memory9 – Milan’s prodigious bleep freak, a.k.a. Gadi Sassoon a producer who combines a virtuosic control of live electronics with organic musicianship to create truly intriguing music, influenced by the sounds of Modeselektor, Aphex Twin and Squarepusher as well as jazz and punk rock
‘Mission’ is a floor-slamming four minutes of raw Ragga-tronica, with drum hits crashing in time to ominous bass lines and distorted crunky lead hooks. The infamous Juakali spits his lyrics like a demon possessed, bringing his own unique vocal styles to the track dragging it kicking and screaming to an anthemic chorus that is the track’s central focus and culmination.
Memory9 has created that which others could only dream of; a track that is both intelligent while simultaneously maintaining the credibility of a dance floor killer that should come with a warning.
On the remix front, the King Cannibal take on Memory9’s original is a floor shattering affair, stripping back the layers leaving huge drums that pin down cavernous bass and lead lines. The King has just dropped one of the biggest mixtapes of the year, and the “Way of the Ninja” compilation is currently up for a prestigious DJ magazine “Best of British” award.
Direct from California, Mochipet’s interpretation is a stripped down affair leaving Juakali’s vocals at the forefront accompanied by P-Funk synth licks and epic arpeggiated chorus. Wrapping things up nicely on a UK Funky flex is the SPR All-Stars remix, where a tightly syncopated kuduru beat and growling bass synths switching between half-time swagger and full pace keep things moving.
One exciting record that will have pro’s scratching their heads, and clubs brutalising customers for a long time to come.
