PAUL COOK & THE CHRONICLES

| On 11, Jan 2011

In late 2008 singer-songwriter Paul Cook began cataloguing stories he heard.  Stories that he used to try to forget from people he used to try to avoid.  In run down bars, on buses and trains – in an out of date diary that had Big Star scratched into the cover.  ‘Tell me a story and I’ll write you a song.’  February 2011 sees the release of the first of these stories.

‘Six Places’ by Paul Cook & The Chronicles:

“You ever been in love kid?  I’ve been in love. Six times I’ve been in love. Six times I got burned. That sorta heartbreak hurts like hell boy, but a heart can take a lot, a whole lotta pain and then be ready for some more. So I decided to break my own heart. I’d break it in six different places for the six times I’ve been screwed over. Now, boy most doctors’ll tell you, you can’t survive without a beating heart, but that’s just to keep you paying your medical insurance. I went out in the yard, got my tools and ripped that thing right outta there. Put it on my workbench and hammered into it, breaking it into six perfect size pieces..” , Frank W, Buffalo, New York State (23 November, 2008).

Tipping its hat to contemporary acts like Cass McCombs and Shins and inspired by the melodic hit of early 70s Paul Simon and the acerbic attack of ‘Blood On The Tracks’ era Dylan, ‘Six Places’ stands as a heartfelt and brutally honest opening salvo and the first in a quartet of releases by the project slated to come out during the course of 2011.
