Join us for another epic showdown from the London-based art-led record label, magazine and creative collective Earnest Endeavours. Always down for craft and collaboration we present a very special launch party. Having debuted Nosaj Thing’s Live AV show with Fair Enough and Deadly Rhythm back in October, the next in a new series of monthly events sees EE team up with the legendary screenprinting crew and label Hit+Run & the incredibly talented and infamous artist / DJ / producer Justin McNulty aka Kutmah to throw another night of live future music in another of London’s unique, unnamed, underground spaces.
This rare 2 part event in London‘s East End takes place on Wednesday 19th January and celebrates the launch of Kutmah’s debut solo art exhibition at the Protein Gallery (6pm. 18 Hewett St. EC2A 3NN) “Two Soups & A Honeybun”, 39 powerful works created whilst incarcerated awaiting deportation charges, the launch of his new CD “The New Error Vol 1” as well as the first physical release from the Earnest Endeavours stable. A hand screen printed (at the Los Angeles HIT+RUN Scum Dungeons) mixtape CD, namely Jams F Kennedy’s  “A Heart-Breaking Work of Swagger and G Ness”, one half of enigmatic EE signings, Widows.

Alongside Kutmah himself and residents Patchwork Pirates, guests include Brainfeeder youngun Teebs (LIVE) and the incredible talents of Dorian Concept (LIVE) alongside the live debut solo show from Los Angeles’s Jams F Kennedy.

ARTIST BIOGS & MORE INFO
For the underground music and arts community of Los Angeles (and a worldwide legion of supporters) DJ, producer and visual artist KUTMAH is one of their most mercurial creatives, leading LA’s inimitable artistic renaissance. Starting his Sketchbook Sessions in 2004 at Little Temple alongside Take, Eric Coleman (Mochilla) and DJ Nobody (Low End Theory), the city’s first instrumental beats and art night paved the way for the likes of Low End Theory and Brainfeeder. Justin“Kutmah” McNulty was born in the UK to an Egyptian mother and Scottish father. He moved to the US when he was 12-years-old. Without advance warning nor any provoking criminal activity, on 5th May 2010, seven armed federal agents entered his house, handcuffed and detained him. On 7th May he was flown to a New Mexico prison where he was locked down until his release (almost two months later) on 29th June. Kutmah was deported to the UK where he currently resides, unable to legally re-enter the United States.
Whilst detained under conditions akin to a federal prison – one hour of daylight allowed per day, lights on at 4am – Kutmah sought solace in art, drawing to keep sane with only a short pencil and ID card. This party is a celebration of his freedom, future, his creativity and a warm welcome to London for a generous artist that should never have seen the four walls of prison.
EARNEST ENDEAVOURS launched in the summer of 2010 with a West Coast US Tour featuring the first act on the label, LA’s Widows. In Jan 2011 Earnest Endeavours will launch the mixtape by Widows’ JAMS F KENNEDY (curated & mixed by the Patchwork Pirates) ahead of Widows’ first full release on the label. Jimmy Jams flies in from New York where he currently resides for a one-off live set to showcase the insane talent put down on his “Heart-Breaking Work of Swagger & G-Ness” mixtape.
DORIAN CONCEPT is a mind-melting Austrian producer and keyboarder interested in exploring the interface between digital and analogue music, composition, musical performance, and improvisation. Influences range from the jazz of Coltrane, the later experiments of Ann Arbor Resident Dabrye to the soundscapes of Oval. Dorian Concept is a twirk-noodle king, his on-the-fly improvs and freak key workouts are altogether astounding with scattered drums, piercing synth-laced hooks and jaw dropping bass. A self-taught pianist and somewhat of a YouTube star (his online tweaks get over 200,000 hits), Dorian, aka Oliver Johnson, recently had releases on labels like Kindred Spirits, Treble-O and R2. His live show is insane. Trust us.
One of LA’s most beloved and deeply rooted members stepped out in 2010 with an LP full of infectious melodies, subtle hip-hop and a kaleidoscope of sound. The record was “Ardour”, the debut album by long-time My Hollow Drum, Dublab, and recent Brainfeeder artist, 23-year-old TEEBS. Flying Lotus didn’t hesitate to take Teebs under his wing after hearing some of his earliest beats and “Ardour” began to bloom. Flying Lotus said, “Teebs music sounds like an island vacation… The way ‘Avatar’ looks.” Earnest Endeavours are mad pleased he could join the party.
HIT+RUN was created in 2005 by Southern Californian artists Brandy Flower and Mike Crivelo. A product of the contagious enthusiasm they had seen from the small silkscreening parties in their homes, Hit+Run’s live T-Shirt screenprinting events quickly grew, and are now hosted at music festivals and happenings around the world. At each Hit+Run event Flower and Crivello act as curators, selecting from their network of artists to compile a collection of exclusive single-color silkscreen designs, each graphic solely available during the single night exhibitions. Party goers interact in the screenprinting process on site with the Hit+Run crew to create one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art.
