Architects – The Here and Now

Architects are back with a new album and altogether new sound with the release of The Here and Now. A conscious change of approach is tangible throughout the album; a risky decision when you have established a loyal fan base, however, I am pleased to say that generally the quality remains good.
The album gets off to a great start with a continuation of the sound that Architects are renowned for in Day In Day Out and Learn To Live. These tracks immediately grab you by the throat with melodic post-hardcore choruses, pounding riffs and hook-laden vocals, showing a clear progression whilst retaining the vibe of their impressive debut release Hollow Crown.
Points that the album fails are perhaps in an Open Letter For Myself and Heartburn, which slow the whole pace of the record and obviously mark a step in the more commercial direction for the band. However, although these tracks may alienate some listeners, they will undoubtedly attract a new, larger audience. The album also works well as a whole meaning that weaker standalone tracks work better when nestled between the more successful tunes.
Architects are undoubtedly a hugely talented band and with this release I am sure they will receive the wider appreciation that they deserve. Although some existing fans may be disappointed with a few of the tracks on this release ultimately it shows great promise that Architects have the ability to create something that is genuinely brilliant in the future. Watch this space!
