ANTHONY DAVID’s star is definitely on the ascent – he now features on Barrack Obama’s iPod, according to a recent radio interview with the US President.*
The Grammy-nominated Atlanta singer returns to the UK on Tuesday February 22nd for an evening of Acoustic Soul at London’s Bush Hall.
Tickets for the concert, presented by Jazz FM, are available from www.hmvtickets.com (0843 221 0100), price £15.
Anthony’s intimate, acoustic date – on which he will be joined by guitarist Brandon Thomas – coincides with the release of his forthcoming third album, As Above, So Below, on February 21st and follows his recent sold-out show at the Jazz Cafe.
His first new album since 2006, when he performed on BBC 2’s Later…with Jools Holland, the 12-song set includes guest performances from fellow Atlanta singer Algebra, and a duet with his cousin Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, on Tears For Fears’ Everybody Wants To Rule The World.
For many, David’s slices of country-blues, hip-hop and acoustic soul come across best when delivered in an unplugged setting.
“Anthony seemed to come alive the most with his guitar strapped on during his acoustic
interludes” – Blues & Soul
“On Backstreet he showed us the Anthony David we know and love. Him, a guitar and a story….” – Soul Culture
*President Obama was asked about the contents of his iPod during an October, 2010 interview on the ‘Ricky Smiley Morning Show’. He replied: “You know, I’ve actually been listening to some of the neo soul. The First Lady turned me on to Anthony David – he’s got some nice music”.
