Ones To Watch 2011: Lonely Galaxy

Lonely Galaxy, aka the Londoner Harry Granger-Howell, writes heartbreaking ballads defining his music soul/gospel. He’s right in part if you consider that there are loads of organs and echoes, but this is not enough, there’s more than simple gospel, Lonely Galaxy joins the best of brit pop music (U2 and Coldplay above all) and dark atmospheres typical of 80s new wave (The Cure). It’s interesting that they are unsigned, they can easily follow that music scene inspired by soft melodies of 60s and 80s reinterpreted with sounds of Noughties, I could call it a “nostalgic indie”.
The guitar is really important for their sound, characterizing it sometimes with a U2 sound, sometimes beats time giving the tune a solemn pace, the voice is thrown away with nonchalance, it’s not bad, on the contrary it’s good to create a languor and a lump in your throat. Bells and organ contribute to create a fairy atmosphere, but it sounds closer to the Corpse Bride than to Cinderella.
Lonely Galaxy has his second EP of 2010, the aptly titled EP 2, set for a December 2 release via Transparent.
