Val-d’Isére is duo Sean Bamberger and Carrie Flower from London and Leeds, UK. This is their debut EP: an imagined memory of the 60s & 70s, a bastard cross of strong rhythms and pretty melodies played through old-school hardware. The tracks feature mistakes, lapses in rhythm and a loose approach to tempo with drums sampled from old Youtube clips.
Sean and Carrie met through mutual friend Emily Sear, who subsequently produced the artwork for this EP. Carrie’s relaxed, carefree style instantly fitted perfectly with the sound Sean was trying to achieve. The songs were recorded via the virtues of the Internet with music and vocal tracks bouncing back and forth on email. While producing their first track ‘Pinpoint’, Carrie sent the vocals unaligned to the track so Sean placed them mostly by guesswork. The result was pleasing on the ear though, so a conscious effort was made on future tracks to manipulate Carrie’s vocals to align with the music.
Val-d’Isère have recently remixed Gold Field’s new single ‘Treehouse’ for Young And Lost Club. Download here.
A full album is currently being recorded for release mid 2011.
