The Concretes @ Lexington

The Second life of The Concretes. The ever-changing Stockholm 7-piece (in absence of Maria Eriksson, only Lisa Milberg from the original female trio was present tonight) launches their new album WYWH and show new beats and atmospheres.
From the first three tracks, “Good Evening”, “My Ways”, and “Crack The Paint”, the stylistic innovation is apparent. Swinging, bouncing, sensual, the new Concretes give the nod to 70’s Disco and Swedish godfathers Abba.
Lisa owns the stage with her charisma and her paradoxical figure, made of beautiful cold eyes and warm voice and lyrics. The other Concretes seem a bit shy in the background, despite undisputable skills that make this gig a very enjoyable night.
The statement of a new era fro Concretes is made by the choice of the songs: all the new album is displayed, only three songs from the past. Listening to “Say Something New” is a sort of shock. The indie-past of the band hardly ties with this new incarnation.
The audience seems a bit confused but enjoys this new trend, foot-tapping and smiling. Adjö så länge Concretes, we’re sure your cold magic won’t melt in summer.
