We Are Enfant Terrible – Wild Fish EP

Unsigned band We ‘are enfant terrible’ digs deep with their 3rd EP – ‘Wild Fish‘ – and according to this listeners’ ear drums there isnot a lot new here, just a re-mix of their last two EPs. Wih that spot of info behind us, there truly is a lot to be said about this indie/electronica band to get ones’ teeth around.
This group’s EP release on December 6th in Europe say they will have their debut album out in the ethernet by spring 2011, with the help of new management company Last Gang records, (whom they met in Toronto in June 2010 and had a few beverages) and have worked with the likes of METRIC, CHROMEO, CRYSTAL CASTLES, BOYS NOIZE, DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979, MSTRKRFT, TIGA… – not names to be sniffed at and in any case!
The single falls into the repetitive nature always linked to the elecronica genre and it’s the lyrics that shine through. The singer harps on at length about anti-establishment in ‘Wild Lips’ , whereas ‘Flesh n Blood’ the 80’s wanna be time travellers favourite; with a mix between Depeche Mode and The Smiths being the closest to a decent description of the music.
This single has a few faults, one being it’s singers ‘I’m bored’ lyrics and tone of voice and the boring repetition of the electronic orchestra behind them. However, with a decent production they can easily spruce up this bands multi-lyricism and make tunes that have more than one state of being, i.e. add a bit of a darker side such as electric guiitar and not just beeps and boings which seem to be their current musical truism.
