(8th Dec onwards)

“imagine a beautiful, passionate collaboration between the Handsome Family and Lift To Experience… Conjure, if you will, the gorgeous boy-girl harmonies of the Family wrapping their honey dripping syllables around the balls-out, ragged Texan string wrangling of the Experience. All condensed into three minute dark country revenge vignettes. Yes, that good.” Drowned in Sound

Having just completed their first headline UK and European tour, Sparrow And The Workshop are ecstatic to announce that they will be joining The Pogues on their Christmas shows. The tour, including two nights at London’s legendary Brixton Academy, kicks off in Ireland on the 8th December and then in the UK from 13th to 21st December. The full tour dates are below.

The feted Glasgow-based Americana trio are big fans of The Pogues and can’t wait to join them on tour. Frontwoman Jill O’Sullivan explains further:

“My folks and I moved to Chicago from Ireland when I was small and they listened to the Pogues religiously. They saw them play whenever they came into town and sang along to them at parties and in pubs. The Pogues were important for us, for my folks to feel connected to the place they left behind and for me to know more about my own cultural heritage. When we were offered the support tour I was shocked and delighted. I’ll probably faint when I meet the band. I’ve never really been star-struck but, yeah, I’ll faint for sure.”

Sparrow And The Workshop released the single ‘Black to Red’ last month through Distiller Records, and it gained great radio support, including winning Steve Lamacq’s ‘Rebel Playlist’ on BBC 6Music. It was the first new song to be released since their critically acclaimed album, ‘Crystals Fall’; the follow-up to which is set for release early next year.

The Pogues tour brings to 2010 to a successful end for Sparrow And The Workshop, rounding-off a year that’s witnessed support tours to Idlewild and Brian Jonestown Massacre plus one-off shows with British Sea Power, Broken Records and The Lemonheads.
