Please allow me to introduce SINGING ADAMS with the debut single ‘I Need Your Mind / Amatuer Reactions’ is out 13th December and the ace video is here
Singing Adams is the new project from ex-BROKEN FAMILY BAND man Steven Adams. There’s an all together more poppy vibe than his previous band’s releases, hear for yourself on 16th December at XOYO for the EOTR Christmas Party, or 19th December at the Windmill in Brixton – get in touch for guestlist or to hear the single.
Singing Adams has come together remarkably quickly – less than a year in fact after splitting the celebrated Broken Family Band (not “musical differences,” merely “it had run its course”).
It came about when the singer/songwriter/guitarist experimented with some bedroom recordings following the dissolution of BFB. “I realised I needed a proper band to bash out the songs. I just asked some people who I really liked, who I thought would be fun to play and sing with, and they said yes,” he says. Those people are bassist Michael Wood (Michaelmas), drummer Melinda Bronstein (Absentee, Wet Paint) and guitar player Matthew Ashton (The Leaf Library, Saloon). Together, they take their name from a former solo project of Steve’s, The Singing Adams. “Once I’d got the band together I decided to keep that name, minus a ‘The’, and the others pretend not to mind,” he says.
An album – titled Everybody Friends Now – is set to follow in 2011. Recorded in a remote studio in Norfolk, the experience was, says Steven, “a holiday in the countryside. We worked hard and didn’t get much sleep but it was amazing.”
The double A-side single ‘I Need Your Mind / Amateur Reactions’ is being put out by Records Records Records Records and for Adams it’s a case of new sound, same rapier wit.

Bit of a reurn for psych rock Texans THE BLACK ANGELS as they tour Europe in February and March 2011. Got to be the most hypnotic, psychedelic live band on the circuit, their performances are immersive, transcendental experiences as we’re sure anyone who’s caught the band before will agree. Their acclaimed third album Phosphene Dream is out now now, which saw the band uniting with famed producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother and Black Mountain), resulting in their most forward-thinking and focussed album to date.
The album debuted in the top 50 on the Billboard chart, the band were recently named Band Of The Week on RollingStone.com. They’ve notched up a Letterman appearance, performed on the Jim Jarmusch-curated stage at New York’s ATP, delivered their third annual music-and-arts festival Austin Psych Fest 3 and appeared on UNKLE’s new album on the track Natural Selection. Way to move into 2011…
