Le Rev on objectivity and what come’s next

| On 30, Nov 2010

AAAMusic: How did the group get together?

Le Rev: We met randomly through friends and just started writing. But at the time it didn’t feel like we were trying to “start a band”. We just would just get a bottle of whiskey and play music and write songs for hours. I think that’s how we found our voice but It was still another year before we started looking for other musicians and playing shows.
AAAMusic: Is there a story behind the name Le Rev?

LR: Shortly after we wrote our first few songs we were at a museum and there was a painting called Le Reve…  so we took the name and bastardized it.
AAAMusic: You are described as a Los Angeles Band; do you think that you project a particularly Los Angeles sound and how would you describe it?

LR: I think so. In a way the city made us. The music was often a way of fighting back against the city cause living in LA can be so intense… and it’s also an escape. So there is this introspective nature to our sound but it it’s also powerful and not shy. I think it’s that contrast that resonates.

AAAMusic: You have both written for other people; how does that differ from writing songs exclusively for yourself?

LR: I think song writing for other people is like giving advice.. it’s so much easier to give good advice to someone else cause you can be objective. But when it comes to yourself its more unclear so it you end up responding to gut feelings which makes it more personal. i don’t if that makes sense…..
AAAMusic: How was working with Jeff Saltzman?

LR: Jeffs an interesting guy cause he really knows how to draw the best out of you and suddenly you just feel like you’re playing amazing…  plus he’s been involved in the music industry in so many different ways he has a lot of wisdom

AAAMusic: What can we expect from your new EP?

LR: Mums the word
AAAMusic: Have you toured much as a group? Do you enjoy playing live?

LR: We haven’t toured much, but playing live is the best. Every show is like taking your hands off the wheel, closing your eyes and seeing what happens. like dreaming
AAAMusic: Any end of year highlights?

LR: Head down in the studio for me till years end
AAAMusic: What are your plans for 2011?

LR: Lots of new music
