The Kickliner – The Kickliner EP

On paper Derby boys the ‘The Kickliner’ come across as unique individual band with undeniable talent and a prosperous future, unfortunately when listening to the opening track ’17th Floor’ from their new self titled EP I was severely disappointed hearing what can only be describe as yet another generic indie band, complaining about apparent love, life and work. This was followed by ‘Amsterdam’, which I must admit had a decent intro which made me hopefully but sadly it quickly returned to the equilibrium of generic indie band status as soon as the vocals kicked in. The following three track; ‘Emilie’s Room’, ‘Seventeen’ and ‘This is A Gift’ were pretty much the same, simple guitar riffs with occasional lead solos as heard towards the end of ‘Emilie’s Room’ accompanied by a standard set of indie lyrics. However there did seem to be and inkling of potential echoing in the background of ‘This is A Gift’.
Overall, I’m sorry to say but these guys aren’t anything special and are far from unique, also to compare them to one of the most iconic, talented and unique bands in music history; The Kinks as they have been is completely absurd.
