Flashguns – Come And See The Lights

Busy year for Flashguns, with the recording of their debut album and an increasing fan base to please. Come And See The Lights is their first single, their business card for those who are not familiar with them. Fans of lady like folk beware: the track starts with sharp guitar riffs and stumping drums.
At first the vocals sound quite gentle, as if asking permission to step into the music, but they quickly get stronger and by the time the refrain kicks in with Come and see the lights with me it is clear that the guy can hit high notes, creating something of a punk/new wave sound, winking at My Bloody Valentine, especially when it comes to the instrumental middle section.
The sound architecture is well constructed, with keys and synths added to give that extra polished finish to the epic sound ensemble. It might not be everybody’s cup of tea at first listen, but it is definitely a grower – a refreshing tune that steps out of what is currently fashionable within the indie scene.
