London, 22nd November
Model Society take the stage at 9 o’clock on a cold November night; maybe a night too cold considering the huge space left empty at the Bull & Gate in Kentish Town.
Fortunately, the band seems not to care about the lack of public and start their gig with the right attitude playing their first song on the setlist Citizen Chant, the perfect track to warm up the instruments before introducing two songs that reminded of brit music of the early ’80s. During Luxembourg the frontman Danny Clarke decides to jump off the stage and walk through the public while singing – definitely not the best idea considering the number of people there. All their energy comes out with songs like Tell Me Why, Follow Your Dreams and Public Service. The four guys from London definitely know how to entertain their public with good guitar riffs, drum solos and catchy lyrics. Most of their songs are halfway between early U2, Joy Division and The Dead 60’s. Then it’s time for City of Romance, definitely their best song so far, one of those tracks ready to be launched – a mix of The Wombats, The Cure and The Smiths – well done guys! After this catchy tune, there’s still time for another song, Sweeterlife.
Model Society will play again in Camden next month (December 13th) at the Proud gallery.
