Two Spot Gobi to release new album
‘The Sun Will Rise’ in 2011
Live Showcase: Thursday 2nd December 2010 – Monto Water Rats, London
Brighton six-piece Two Spot Gobi are set to return in 2011 with their brand new album ‘The Sun Will Rise’. Recorded in the home of Grammy award winning artist Jason Mraz in California, the album perfectly showcases the band’s effortless ability to craft sun-kissed, laid back anthems to brighten even the darkest of days.
Incorporating elements of pop, rock, reggae, jazz and funk to create irresistibly upbeat melodies, Two Spot Gobi’s forthcoming release was recorded with legendary producer Niko Bolas, who has worked with the likes of John Mayer and Regina Spektor, as well as producing over 10 albums by Neil Young.
The album features the forthcoming single ‘Guiding Star’, released February 2011. Lead singer James Robinson describe the track as: “’When Rob and I were writing Guiding Star we wanted to make a track that sounded different from all our other songs, something with a far eastern feel and that was full of urgency, desire and mystery. The lyrics in the song were inspired by one of my all time favourite films ‘Akira’ and it’s all about the power we all have to do great things in life. It’s definitely a favourite of mine on the album “.
Tracks from the album will be showcased at an intimate performance at London’s Monto Water Rats venue on Thursday 2nd December. The band have a growing reputation as confident and charismatic live performers, having toured the globe and played alongside artists such as Bruno Mars, Newton Faulkner and Michael Bublé.
As well as recording the album at his home, Jason Mraz features on the song ‘Tomorrow.’ Two Spot Gobi have a rich history with the American singer, after he caught the band performing in Plymouth on a day off while touring the UK. James says, “After we played he came and had a chat to us and before we knew it, we were asked to go on tour with him across Europe and the US. He has become an amazing friend of the band and it was an honor to be asked to record at his home”.
The tracks featured on ‘The Sun Will Rise’ capture Two Spot Gobi at their most creative. The band were given free rein in the studio while in California and when not recording, spent their time surfing and relaxing at the beach. “The tracks are breezy and laidback, so it made so much sense to record it in such a mellow atmosphere and at our own pace,” James explains. “Our time in Oceanside was pure magic, it was a defining moment for us, we literally lived and breathed the record and you definitely hear it in the finished product.”
Full of creativity, positivity and genuine songwriting talent, ‘The Sun Will Rise’ promises to be one of 2011’s most confident and accomplished releases from one of the UK’s most exciting and diverse acts.
