The debut album ‘Hope’ from Leni Ward will strike you as nothing short of pure magic. Inspired by the breakup of her seven year long relationship this album is a tale of pride, optimism and hope, rather than a story of bitterness and depression.
Beautifully arranged and composed, ‘Hope’ shows off Leni’s extraordinary talent as a multi-intrumentalist. Having written, recorded, produced and performed every note, this album is a true and authentic representation of Leni. The eclectic use of instruments, from harps to synths combine with Leni’s vocals to provide the listener with a really fresh take on contemporary pop music.
Previously, Leni has gained strong support from Steve Lamacq who invited her onto his Radio 2 show for an interview and made her his featured artist of the week. Tom Robinson chose Leni to play at the first ever ‘Fresh on the Net session’ to be recorded at the prestigious Riverside Studios. Numerous other DJs, including Dermot O’Leary and Gideon Coe, have shown Leni support by playing early demos on their shows. She was also invited by the BBC to play a set at the coveted T In The Park festival last year and more recently played her first ever London show to adoring fans .
Summarising her inspiration and the music on her album, Leni says ” After the breakup, I didn’t want to waste any more time…I don’t see the point of sitting, miserable, listening to down-tempo music and moping. I’d choose dancing over depression. I think the music reflects that.”
