Islington Boys’ Club – Pristine/Plastic 16

After the first listening I thought wow! Islington Boys’ Club are inspired by that wave of punk headed by Siouxsie and that’s brilliant because bands are re-discovering punk in this period, but it’s always something referring to the sound of Green day and co. IBC goes back to dark 70s and take the taste for raw and acid guitars like in Plastic 16, Andy Lovelee’s vocals are blown and charming, but at the same time clear and strong. Their arrangements are very polished, song sound almost suspended in midair, the guitar lick at the very start of Pristine is like a wolf howling in the desert, breaks of drums leave the listener out of breath.
Sitting somewhere in between the rock and electro bands of this world, IBC create music that is innovative. Uplifting rock music filled with exciting hooks, pounding drums and intelligent, beautifully sung vocals. They have shared stages with the likes of O.Children, Dark Horses and Is Tropical and played The Stag & Dagger and 1234 Shoreditch festivals this year.
The double A-side single: Pristine/ Plastic 16 was written and performed by the band: Andy Lovelee, Daniel Silvester Taylor-Lind, Drew Kennedy, Ed Pearson and produced, mixed and recorded by James Aparicio (Grinderman, Liars, Spirtualized, These New Puritans) .
Can’t wait to see them live!
