Fanclub – Poets die too

The Fanclub return this week with Poets Die Too, and needless to say, it’s packed with signature melancholy, sobering vocals, epic melodies and vivid atmosphere. When I first came across The Fanclub I thought of them as the less gratingly depressing, more accessible cousin of I Like Trains, and honestly, my opinion hasn’t really changed much since then. The eponymous single is a typically epic, fiercely emotional affair, filled wall-to-wall with twisting guitar riffs, thumping beats and Josh Todd’s almost operatic voice. Further is more relaxed, an acoustic track that’s defined by Todd’s sharp, clean vocals and the despondent viola that accompanies it. Both tracks are terrific – fans of the release’s predecessor, Madman, won’t be disappointed.
