Bloc. 2011 MORE ACTS ANNOUNCED
aaamusic | On 21, Nov 2010
Bloc is thrilled to announce that the grand master of them all, Richard D James the Aphex
Twin will be taking to the stage to help celebrate Bloc’s fifth birthday. We can’t think of a
more fitting master of ceremonies for this landmark festival.
He’ll be supported by hard and fast techno don Speedy J, whose releases on Warp are
worthy of being he same back catalogue as Aphex himself. It’s worth remembering that no
dancing club is safe from his face-searing assaults through the loopier end of techno so,
mind yourselves. And this is before we get all hot under the collar at the appearance of the
cerebral dancefloor befuddler Four Tet. It’s a massive first for Bloc for Four Tet to be
blending his signature richly textured sonic sculptures live and direct for us, as he has so
ably demonstrated at his infamous ‘Border Community’ parties held at the much-lamented
The End club in London.
As ever Bloc is representing right across the board – to go with the four-to-floor tech acts we
have the mighty trouble and bass superstar Drop the Lime alongside Toddla T with his
long-time hype man MC Serocee. We can’t wait to see Bloc bouncing to the tune of these hienergy,
bass driven club destroyers.
Bloc in 2011 will continue its fine tradition of inviting the great and the good to curate a
section of the festival according to their precise specifications. Long-time Bloc associate and
all-round mega-egg, the chun-li of techstep Mary Anne Hobbs will be fielding a future-bass
crew featuring talents as diverse as rising star Al Tourettes, established funkster L Vis 1990,
leftfield dubstep warlord Addison Groove and mutant house badman Roska.
Too weird to live and too strange to die, the out-there Overkill crew are back on the attack
with the mindbendingly sinister Venetian Snares, The Bug’s new live band project King
Midas Sound, and ninja tune soundwarper Daedelus. They will also bring the all powerful
Raster Noton founder Alva Noto for a live drone AV spectacular, and the buckle on the belt –
Detroit’s master techhead, Jimmy Edgar.
Well known for their excursions into industrial archways deep under London, the eternally
cool mulletover have pulled the massive Vision Quest project from deep within their trousers
for your aural delight. Featuring the emotive dancefloor talents of Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss
and Shaun Reeves, Vision Quest is as much about enjoying yourself in front of the speakers
as it is journeying deep within your subconscious so do remember to have fun. Anarchic
Gallic and oftentimes naked live house maestros dOP and resident Geddes will be in effect
to make sure you do.
We are so pleased to be welcoming back DJ Pinch’s Subloaded gang with their biggest line
up at Bloc to date – the grand oak tree of dubstep Mala, young innovator Joy Orbison and
Berlin techno vicar DJ Pete are testament to the breadth of Pinch’s musical influences and
interests. Factor in the mighty Shackleton, Untold, Gemmy, Guido and Loefah and you have
the kind of lo-end party dreams are made of.
Resident Advisor are known for having their fingers in the plug sockets of electronic club
beats, and their showcase represents some out-of-sight forward thinking, featuring Wolf +
Lamb mainstays Soul Clap, Aus Music boss the ever re-invented Will Saul, the comet-like
sci-fi obsessive Space Dimension Controller and the genre-defying Floating Points.
I Love Acid will be proving they know one end of a 303 from another when they go into
battle with Altern-8’s Mark2, Global Goon, Posthuman, B12, Placid and the ever ridiculous
AGT Rave Cru.
Ultra lo-temperature underground London disco party crew Bodyhammer will be busting a
Dutch electro flex featuring Legowelt, Orgue Electronique, TLR and their residents Joe Hart,
Paul Purgas and Matilda. More at home in their quasi-legal towerblock residency in East
London, we are proud they will be taking time out to jack your bodies in Minehead.
This represents just a tiny taste of the Bloc line up for 2011. We can’t wait to blow your minds
with more names of mega acts – but until that time, sit squirming on your hands and do your
best not to explode with anticipation.
Further headline acts to be announced.
