London, 11th November
Liars are back in town for an exciting show at Heaven. Abandoning their 3 piece status in order to break further sound barriers, Angus, Aaron and Julian are joined by two extra musicians on stage.
The venue doesn’t seem to be sold out, but their hard core fans are not intimidated by this nor take advantage and enjoy the extra space; instead, they all gather by the stage and enjoy the action.
And the action was all there: like a call to the arms, Liars put on an incredible electro/punk show, performing pretty much all their extensive catalogue, including beloved and for long dropped tracks from their sublime debut album They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top.
From the angry Plaster Casts of Everything, which drives the crowd crazy, to one of the highlights of the show, the beautiful composition that is The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack, passing by Clear Island, which sees Angus Andrew thrashing around his mic stand and tossing around his sweaty, long hair, everything is just a crescendo of beat and adrenaline, both on stage and among the audience.
Proud Evolution line “you should be careful” feels like a mixture of warning and advice, given by a shook of his finger at the audience by Andrew. A dreamy, hypnotic song to get lost in, at your peril.
As if there is any need to remark that Liars are incredible musicians (despite Andrew has ditched the guitar duties recently and enjoys the love affair with the mic stand), they keep exchanging instruments, with Julian also ditching his drumkit for the keyboard to then reach the point where two drummers enjoy a session, creating a visual mesmerize.
Liars also take the chance to perform from their latest fatigue Sisterworld, such as No Barrier Fun, alongside old favourites such Loose Nuts on a Veladrome, Scarecrows On A Killer Slant, We Fenced Other Houses With The Bones Of Our Own, The Overachiever and The Garden Was Crowded And Outside, to then close as a trio with classic and fans beloved Broken Witch.
What a night, definitely worth adventuring outside during this miserable November day.
