Portico Quartet return to London to play 2 shows at the ICA
aaamusic | On 15, Nov 2010
After a breakneck year that has seen Portico Quartet build on their critical acclaim of their second album Isla with an almost non-stop world tour taking in venues from New York to Paris, Istanbul to Stockholm and Prague to Berlin, the band announce two very special shows back home in London on 3rd & 4th December.
Portico Quartet’s last London show found them headlining a near sell-out Barbican show, but for these special intimate shows the band have opted to return to the ICA, one of their very favourite London venues. And for what promises to be two very wonderful nights Portico Quartet have invited two of their favourite artists to open the shows, atmospheric trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf and electronica artist Leafcutter John.
Friday 3rd December
Portico Quartet + Leafcutter John
Intrepidly inventive Leafcutter John is a multi-talented musician, songwriter, remixer, and member of avant-jazz collective Polar Bear, he melds found and processed sounds with acoustic instrumentals into a seamless and haunting mix. “Alongside Aphex Twin and Bogdan Raczynski – he’s one of the UK’s most fearlessly inventive electronicists.” (TimeOut)
Saturday 4th December
Portico Quartet + Ibrahim Maalouf
French/Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf combines jazz and classical Arabic music. Haunting, melancholic and subtle his sound flows between cultures.
Tickets are £15 and available via www.ica.org.uk. For more information about Portico Quartet visit www.porticoquartet.com .
