‘PLUG’ are a duo of Londoners putting there mark on the minimalist pop scene of today. There brand new self titled album is a showcase of their talents and remarkable ability to create fresh a unique sounds from simple melodies, beats and lyrics making each track individual but connected.
Diving straight in with ‘Don’t Forget It’, an electric track of raw basic emotion of retaliation introducing us to the sound of ‘PLUG’. The second track ‘You Keep The Beats’ is a more typical track associated with the minimalist pop genre with its upbeat riff and simple repetitive lyrics. However this is followed by ‘Body Story’, a track which again shows off the versatile capability of ‘PLUG’ and there ability to express raw basic human emotions through the musical form of minimalist pop. The sandwich format of fast upbeat punk influenced minimalist pop mixed with darker raw emotional minimalist pop seems to be the overall structure of the album, proving indefinitely the potential of ‘PLUG’. The punk influence is evident throughout the album especially in ‘Faces of Diversity’ and ‘Sexy Coma’, which both have simple riffs but very powerful lyrics making them almost addictive and irresistible. The album comes to an end with the seven minute track ‘Attractive’, which offers reflection of the album but also paves a clear path to the future.
‘PLUG’ successfully showcases the reality of life itself through non narrative minimalist pop which is some what addictive through there use of repetitive riffs and lyrics. Definitely one to watch.
