Motorifik – Secret Things

‘Motorifik’ is the creative love child of ‘Working for a Nuclear Free City ‘ keyboardist Phil Kay and French songwriter ‘Idrisse Khelifi’, an indie psych pop duo who offer something new but also familiar to our listening ears.
The album opener ‘Secret Things’ is a soothingly powerful track of crated textures and sounds in a predominantly indie form, unfolding ‘Motorifik’ to us all. Although the album begins with a predominantly indie sound the psych pop element heightens as the album progresses, which is especially noticeable by track five ‘Strange Weather’ where the album in flung straight into the deep end of the indie psych pop genre.
There is a definite element of the ‘Working for a Nuclear Free City’ influence echoing throughout the album, but instead of just focusing on manipulation of texture and space, ‘Motorfifik’ also focus on the classic pop elements which are shown by the albums upbeat tone and feel good atmosphere.
The final track ‘Flames on the Ocean’ is a stereotypical farewell track with an obvious atmosphere of something coming to an end, but leaving a glimpse that something may return, so beautifully structured that you may even call it an epic song as you bask in its magnificence. An absolutely stunning album, I urge you strongly to have a listen for yourself.
