Ambience meets pop here in Changelings. Though the songs all have a decidedly creepy feel to them, none top I Wonder You, a cacophony of distorted vocals and ghostly synths. The eponymous opening track is a more delicate, ethereal (but no less sinister) affair, while third and final track Changelings (The Enormous Shadow) is simply an extension/remix of its predecessor. Gazelle Twin come across as the darker cousins of 80s pop – unsurprisingly, Kate Bush springs to mind more than once, though this feels much less like a copy, more an ’inspired-by’ effort, or possible homage. It’s a good sound, for sure – but here’s hoping any future full-length release from Gazelle Twin switches things up a little bit, offering a bit more range. For an essentially two track EP though, Changelings is a success.
