Pete Lawrie – In The End
aaamusic | On 08, Nov 2010
Relative newcomer Pete Lawrie continues the tried-and-tested, heart-on-their-sleeve tradition of singer-songwriters in the vein of Paolo Nutini with In The End. For an EP, the crop of songs available are surprisingly varied; the upbeat hooks of eponymous single In The End are a stark contrast to the quietly sad musings of Souvenir and Motel Blues, while Black and Blue branches out in a different, funkier direction altogether. And all the while, Lawrie’s gravelly vocals are a constant, understated presence that bind the tracks together perfectly. A winning combination of memorable lyrics, melodies and fervour make In The End a great little EP.
