Tony Christie – Nobody In The World

Tony Christie is fast approaching his 50th anniversary in the music industry and to celebrate new label Acid Jazz put him back in the studio to make an album that takes him back to his musical roots.
‘Now’s The Time!’ boasts a collection of original and new well-crafted soul songs that have been beautifully conceived and movingly delivered. There are nods to Johnny Cash and Spaghetti Westerns, and collaborations come from Jarvis Cocker and Roisin Murphy amongst others.
Nobody In The World , the first single to be released from the album, is a northern soul British ballad, a sweet love song with an old fashioned taste. It’s based on the classic Christie sound, enriched with ethereal choirs and a lovely 60s Saturday night piano. Christie’s vocals are warm and clear, and there’s a soft echo effect that made his voice a bit quaint, and it sounds nostalgic, but not unpleasant.
I think it’s the best way to celebrate a 50-year career, so I wish Christie will be able to sing other successes for another half century.
Tony Christie releases first single ‘Nobody In The World’ on 8th November, taken from the album ‘Now’s The Time!’ released on 7th February 2011, through Acid Jazz.
