‘Come And See The Lights’ hints at this exciting young London based band in full flow. In late 2009, Flashguns disappeared underground to write a stack of new songs, with the sound of acclaim still ringing loudly in their ears. Here they return, having lost none of the vim and energy that constituted that initial buzz, but with an album’s worth of new material to back up the excitement. Distinct and sharp, vocalist Sam Felix Johnston voice spits from the speakers backed with a hefty, distinguished guitar drone.
It is perhaps appropriate that the band chose to record their album in a dilapidated Somerset barn in the bleak midwinter, surrounded by nothing but the sound of forest dwelling wolves and rainfall. ‘Come and See The Lights’ reflects the stark contrast between the beauty and isolation which permeates such places.
“Nature was definitely an unexpected influence. We recorded in the barn through heavy snow storms, beautiful sun rises, hungry, ravenous animals…It was impossible not to let our surroundings in to inspire our music” suggests Sam Johnston.
Working alongside producer Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode), who also recorded the band’s debut EP ‘Matching Hearts, Similar Parts’, and Barny Barnicott (Artic Monkeys, The Temper Trap), Flashguns reflect the mood artfully, bringing out layers of subtle synths and atmosphere to make ‘Come And See The lights’ an evocative taster.
Building upon their experience from touring with the likes of Jamie T and Bombay Bicycle Club the band have just completed their first UK headline tour, and are now heading into Europe to play some already sold-out shows in Germany. They then return to the UK for a one-off London show:
