AM (name of band and frontman both) is an American Trio coming from New Orleans and Los Angeles that would necessarily deserve more attention from the British media.
AM is pop dunked in tropicalia, 70s and desert sauce.
Their gig at Water Rats is a cinematic experience across America, from the instrumental intro to the tribal sounds of It’s So Long that reminds of atmospheres worthy of Calexico.
Old Song is Josh Rouse dreaming on 1970s, whilst Grand Opinion sounds like an extract from the Doors’ Soft Parade, Psych-Blues turning pop in a refrain a la Turin Brakes.
The set is bejewelled by a sweet cover of the Beatles’ I’m Only Sleeping; unfortunate and unnecessary the choice of covering Motown hit Reach Out (I’ll Be There). Much more interesting the romantic ukulele of The Other Side and the pop energy of Self Preservation.
Future Sons & Daughters, AM’s album, will keep us undoubtedly warmer in the forecoming British Winter.
