Kings of Leon showcased a series of tracks from their new album ‘Come Around The Sun’ last night (October 27) during a secret gig in London.
The band played a special intimate concert entitled ‘BBC Radio 1 Presents…Kings Of Leon’ for a one-off show for the station at the Rivoli Ballroom.
Performing against a backdrop of hanging chandeliers, red lamps and flowers, the Followills premiered seven tracks from their new record including hit single ‘Radioactive’.
The band had a few teething problems early on as they struggled to kick off new track ‘Mary’ with singer Caleb Followill later acknowledging: “We are doing some songs we have never played before and we are playing some songs we haven’t played in a long time, so bare with us.”
The fans only gig was their first in the UK since their chart topping fifth studio album was released last week.
“We just flew in yesterday so we are pretty jet lagged,” Caleb later declared before they launched into ‘Pyro’. “The only way I know how to fight it is to get drunk.”
Later the singer teased the crowd before kicking off ‘Sex On Fire’ as he revealed: “We don’t get to play venues like this very often. It was freezing cold earlier but I don’t know why I’m wearing a sweater now because it’s hot as hell in here. Want me to take it off? You first.”
As ever the fans sang every word to their 2008 chart topper along with ‘Use Somebody’ before they wrapped up the show with ‘Black Thumbnail’.
Signing off Caleb added: “You guys have been wonderful, thank you for coming all this way. God bless you we are Kings Of Leon.”
They played:
‘Radioactive’
‘Mary’
‘Taper Jean Girl’
‘The End’
‘Back Down South’
‘Crawl’
‘Pick Up Truck’
‘Pyro’
‘Sex On Fire’
‘The Face’
