Black Gold’s ‘Shine’ is nothing short of a brilliant track. Some will recognise it from its appearance on the soundtrack of ‘Valentine’s Day’ but even without having heard it previously, there is something immediately recognisable about it. Vocals that are reminiscent of Badly Drawn Boy with a somewhat unoriginal backing track combine into a track that is actually far more successful than it should be. Falling just short of anthemic, Black Gold manage to create a lovely uplifting track that manages to bring a smile to the face and perhaps even a little extra sparkle to your day.

Although the radio edit is by far my favourite track on this remixes LP, the array of remixes here is impressive. The listener can hear the track in several different styles which shows off its diversity and just how much a remix can change the way that one hears a song. The inclusion of different versions of each remix may be somewhat excessive but there are things to treasure here.
