Love Amongst Ruin – Home

Love Amongst Ruin are one of my favourite bands at the moment. Steve Hewitt has proved that he can be an amazing front man and I verified that seeing him live. I was absolutely astonished by his charisma and vocal mastery. And he can do this avoiding to hit off Placebo, his music has got a fascinating identity that only few times echoes back to his previous band. Also I can’t make the mistake of forgetting other musicians, from the guitarist to the drummer every piece of Love Amongst Ruin contributes to create something unique but made of five different personalities, a beautiful romance.
After their first single, the powerful So Sad (Fade), Love Amongst Ruin have chosen Home as second single, the last track of their live set. Like So Sad, it’s based on a constant guitar riff that supports Steve’s distorted, languid and angry vocals, but it has not such a big impact, it’s a bit flat because it doesn’t go in crescendo, it’s like a straight line without peaks of excitement. It’s very dark as well, like it were the representation of a repressed anger.
Maybe I would have selected another single, but I’m sure that Steve knows what he’s doing, so I trust him and I wish them to hit it big.
