We Are the in Crowd – Guaranteed to Disagree

With more hooks than it seemed feasibly possible to fit into a 7 song EP, Guaranteed to Disagree is a relentlessly upbeat release with lyrics and melodies that will unwittingly infiltrate your mind for hours. The female/male vocal combo of Tay Jardine and Jordan Eckes produces innocuous harmonies undercut by predictable power chords. Tay’s voice is uncannily similar to that of Paramore’s lead vocalist Hayley Williams and more generally their music could be mistaken for a whole host of current pop-rock groups.
We are the in Crowd will undoubtedly be limited to fans within the ‘young teen’ bracket and thankfully they seem to embrace this. There are no misguided attempts at versatility within this EP suggesting that they are self aware enough to know that attempts to make themselves appeal to a broader section of society would only be futile and could be detrimental to the success they will predictably achieve within that bracket.
Lyrically the EP is predictable and unchallenging to say the least. If you are in search of meaningful lyrics or intricate hidden meanings that are hard to decipher then this is definitely not the band for you!
Overall this is an uninspiring release that gives the listener nothing they haven’t heard, lyrically and melodically, a million times before. Following a predictable formula, the abundance of hooks and harmonies crammed within this 7 song EP will guarantee the band a certain level of success amongst young teens but as there is nothing to separate them from the abundance of similar bands that exist right now any suggestion of longevity would be ridiculous. We are the In Crowd are however, a band that should perhaps be considered in no more than a light hearted way, in which case their tunes are fun, catchy and uplifting.
