Taken from their forthcoming debut album, ‘Lights And Offerings’, which is set for release in February 2011, the single was produced by the band and mixed as part of the album sessions at the DFA studios in New York by Rapture collaborator Jonathan Kreinik.
The single, available on 7” and download features the extra track ‘Tow The Line’ and also mixes from House of House, Leo Zero and Kwes.
Explaining the song, lead singer James commented, “Sometimes the best way to connect with a person is to let them fill in the blanks. Lyrically almost child like in its simplicity, it is a song that can mean everything whilst using a few words. A feeling perpetuated by its loving, soulful intent”.
And continuing the theme from their last single, the sleeve is once again photographed by David Ellis (Klaxons / Annie Mac / Steve Coogan) and designed by the legendary Jules Balme from Vegas Design who was responsible for some classic post-punk sleeves for the likes of The Clash, Tears for Fears and Adam & The Ants. The amazing photos by Ellis perfectly and effortlessly encapsulate everything Mirrors are about.
The video was once again directed by Simon Pollard who worked with the band on their last single, ‘Ways To An End’.
Here’s a few words by the director for more about the making of ‘Hide And Seek’:
“One of the main inspirations for the Hide and Seek video comes from some of the incredible work of legendary stop-motion film maker Jan Svankmajer, notably the second part of a film called ‘Dimensions of Dialogue’, subtitled ‘Passionate Discourse’. I love the intensity of the film; Svankmajer manages to convey the relationship between the two characters with a perfect blend of beauty and brutality. For the H&S video, we wanted to adopt the more subtle aspects of this relationship, focussing on small, meaningful movements and gestures.
“The idea for the room came from a number of sources, but really it’s foundations lie in the work of David Lynch. Taking the camera through the TV into the surreal, theatrical space in which we see the two figures is simply a translation of the girl in the radiator from ‘Eraserhead’.
Having recently completed their first UK headline Mirrors are gearing up to support OMD on their on the European leg of their world tour in November (they are currently remixing OMD’s next single, ‘Sister Marie Says’).
