Curated by Mencap Ambassador Jo Whiley, 2010’s Little Noise Sessions will bring some of the hottest names in music, over six very special nights, to perform acoustically in the exquisite surroundings of the Union Chapel. The stripped back music mixed with the intimate venue gives the audience the chance to see something truly unique each night – this year with balloons and some cake thrown in too!
Returning to the Union Chapel for their second appearance at Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions and bringing some special guests with them is The Kooks, on Thursday 18th November. Joining the Brighton four piece, is man of the moment Example along with New York rockers We Are Scientists, John Bramwell of the Mercury prize nominated I Am Kloot, and rising star Leah Mason, all sure to help celebrate Mencap’s 5th Birthday in style.
Last but certainly not least, closing this years spectacular Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions on Saturday 20th November is golden girl Ellie Goulding, plus special guests. Sure to leave the crowd starry eyed she will be joined by one of Britain’s most talented young bands Stornoway and the signature vocal of Tinashé – the perfect way to end the Sessions.
Luke Pritchard from The Kooks says: “We are really honoured to be asked back again as last time we played we really enjoyed the show. We love this venue as it has a special sense of occasion to it. It has also been a long time since we played London and it’s great to be coming back and doing something different and will be a cool place for us to play some of our new songs. Look forward to seeing you all in November.”
Mencap ambassador Jo Whiley says: “Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions are back and it’s a very special year as we celebrate our 5th birthday with another stunning line up. Join us at the Chapel to witness some unbelievable gigs as well as raising money for this worthwhile cause.”
Mark Goldring, Mencap’s chief executive, commented: “We are thrilled to be celebrating the fifth year of the Little Noise Sessions. These intimate gigs not only raise much-needed funds for Mencap, they also help us to raise awareness of learning disability, which can be a hard disability to understand. The money raised will help Mencap continue to support thousands of people with a learning disability across the UK”.
This year will also see the return of Mencap’s Big Noise Sessions, which makes its London debut in December. Last year’s inaugural event saw bonafide superstars Coldplay perform a one-off homecoming gig in Exeter all in aid of Mencap. Watch this space for a very special announcement in the coming weeks…
There are 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK, who are among the most excluded and disadvantaged people in our society. Those with a learning disability find it harder than others to learn, understand and communicate. Mencap fights for the changes that people with a learning disability, their families and supporters want and need so that they can live their lives the way they choose.
