TOPMAN CTRL GIG CHANGE OF VENUE

| On 12, Oct 2010

This month’s Topman CTRL gig on 20th October

SALFORD LADS’ CLUB HOLD THE KEYS TO www.topmanctrl.com THROUGHOUT OCTOBER
For many, Salford Lads’ Club is a home away from home, not just a venue but also a Mecca for the kings and queens of the North’s music scene. Now, at the iconic Salford Lads Club is changing venue due to unforeseen circumstances.  The one off gig, which has been organised by Topman CTRL to raise money for the club, is moving to a bigger venue in light of recent capacity restrictions put in place by the fire department. All proceeds from the night go to the Salford Lads Club and a larger venue will raise additional funds to help keep the club running for another 100 years.

The new venue is the Ruby Lounge, bang in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Tickets for what is set to be one of the hottest dates in Manchester’s music calendar are on sale now and at £10 are sure to sell like hot cakes. Don’t miss out…

Tim Burgess says, “It’s great to play a part in raising money for the Salford Lads Club. The change of venue means that more people can come to the gig and in turn we raise more money for the club.”

Leslie Holmes, Project Manager, Salford Lads’ Club says, “We were unaware of the problem until last week – and being a listed building it’s not something we can fix overnight. We want as many fans as possible to come along, so finding a venue with a bigger capacity is great for us, because it raises more funds for the club.”

venue and the legendary Charlatans front man, Tim Burgess, have come together to take control of www.topmanctrl.com <http://www.topmanctrl.com> throughout October. They end their reign with a night showcasing their top bands of the moment and guest DJs at The Salford Lads’ Club on October 20th. Tickets, priced at £10, for what is set to be one of the hottest dates in Manchester’s music calendar, are sure to be snapped up.

Playing at the Topman CTRL Live gig will be Factory Floor, Hatcham Social, The Heartbreaks and an exclusive acoustic set from The Charlatans band members Tim Burgess and Mark Collins. Tim Burgess and New Order’s Stephen Morris also hit the decks, playing the best tracks from past and present indie icons, rounding off a line up worth writing home about.  All proceeds will go towards keeping the prestigious  venue club running for another 100 years!

Quote from Tim Burgess
Quote from Salford Lads Club “Wednesday nights at Salford Lads’ Club usually involves the pounding of punch bags and the whack of footballs – But we will gladly hold fire to welcome Tim Burgess and team for a very special evening.  With legendary music photographer Stephen Wright coming along it’s going to be a unique event and we’d like to thank Topman for bringing this all together.”
In a CTRL exclusive, acclaimed music photographer Stephen Wright – who famously captured Manchester legends The Smiths outside Salford Lads’ Club in 19865 – will be back behind the lens, giving music fans the chance to recreate this iconic image.

Factory Floor is one band that makes waves wherever they go. With a sound heavily influenced by the post punk movement and 80’s electronica, it’s hard not to get absorbed in their dark side of pop. Having worked with Joy Divison/New Order drummer Stephen Morris, Factory Floor are set to get boots tapping at Topman CTRL Live.

Londoners Hatcham Social have gained many an influential fan over the past few years, including Tim Burgess. The Charlatans front man made his production debut on their latest album ‘You Dig The Tunnel, I’ll Hide The Soil’, for which Faris Badwan of The Horrors provided the artwork.

Rising stars The Heartbreaks have built up a huge following since forming in 2009, with a sound that captures the drama of The Smiths and the anthemic feeling of the Manic Street Preachers, another perfect choice.

Finally, an exclusive acoustic set from The Charlatans lead singer Tim Burgess and guitarist Mark Collins closes Topman CTRL Live. Having just released their 11th studio album, ‘Who We Touch’, this is a band with real staying power, who constantly deliver. All in all, a faultless match for Salford Lads’ Club.

Tickets for this exclusive event are extremely limited so get tickets now for a night that will go down in Madchester music history.

Throughout October, Salford Lads’ Club takes charge of www.topmanctrl.com <http://www.topmanctrl.com/> giving users on a tour of the Club, taking in its fascinating story and unequalled musical heritage, since it opened it’s doors in 1903 to how it’s evolved into the legendary venue it is today.
