Morcheeba’s Blood Like Lemonade may be conventional in some ways, but is by no means generic. Aside from the steady background beat and sporadic flashes of a bluesy guitar melody, the presence of instruments is kept to a minimum. Instead, the track is defined by vocalist Skye’s understated but nonetheless powerful vocals. This, coupled with typically original lyrics and an overall chilled out mood culminates in a single that somehow feels both laid back and tense at the same time. This subtlety and attention to atmosphere are some of the things that make Morcheeba great – it’ll be a relief for existing fans to learn none of this has been lost in their new release.
