Musée Mécanique – Fits and Starts

Musée Mécanique – the San Francisco reference is definitely apt here. From the opening moments of Fits and Starts, you’ll feel like you’ve been teleported to a scene that wouldn’t seem out of place in a rose-tinted flashback to the days of ‘60s flower power. The track itself isn’t exactly over indulgent of the past, however – though it does owe some of its sound to traditional West coast folk and pop, elements of other genres appear now and then (most significantly country), and there are no sitars in sight. Instead then, it’d be better to say that Musée Mécanique marries the modern and the nostalgic perfectly in this understated little gem of a single. Excellent.
