Dog Is Dead – Young

Nottingham’s Dog Is Dead return this week with Young, the follow up to their critically acclaimed single Glockenspiel Song. What’s interesting about Dog Is Dead is their ability to bring seemingly unrelated genres together into a coherent whole. Vocally, they play with hymn-like harmonies that wouldn’t seem out of place in a Fleet Foxes or Mountain Man record, while simultaneously creating waves of sound made up of elements of jazz, electro, pop and plain indie rock. Similarly, a kind of childlike innocence goes hand in hand with ominous undercurrents, particularly prominent if you really listen to the lyrics. The result is a fascinating single, once again proving to the world that this band is one to watch out for.
