Pete Lawrie Long Welsh Weekend video now live

| On 01, Sep 2010

Early summer 2010. Young singer/songwriter Pete Lawrie spent four days touring his native Wales, playing impromptu acoustic sets across the country in a range of unique and beautiful locations.

From dawn campfire sets on the beach at Aberporth through to performances with the Ystradgynlais brass band at St Cynog’s Church in Powys, Pete and his friends Elliot Wall and Mike Shankleman toured the country in a beat-up old camper van playing in a range of locations special to themselves and suggested by fans and friends.

Having premiered on the BBC Homepage and BBC Wales last month this video is now available to watch (and embed) via the following Vimeo link.

Here’s what Pete had to say about his adventures…

“Just about this time every year. At the top of Spring. Us British folk are witness to a freak summer. Five days of sudden sunshine amidst months of dreary nothing. This year, we decided to use our tiny summer to decamp to our homeland. With a camper van, a few guitars and some charcoal, we turned our back on the bright lights of London and headed for the Hills. I genuinely believe that certain parts of Wales could rival any scenery. I remember finding it amazing as a boy that Canada was an hour from Cardiff. A quick drive out of the city and you are in the Rocky mountains. Lakes, Pines, Yogi Bear. Its all there. We lit fires, slept in WigWams, boated down canals, danced on ye olde pub tables with the very local locals, barbecued fish, played blues on the beach and jammed with a full Brass Band. Turns out Elliot is the best at skimming stones by the way.”

Pete Lawrie released his new EP ‘All That We Keep’ last month via Field/ Island Records. He releases his debut album in early 2011. He plays HMS Belfast in London on the 10th September before playing The Slaughtered Lamb on the 18th September. If you’d like to pop along to either of these shows just give me a shout.
